His Photography

Joseph Vilella was a successful advertising photographer from the mid to late 1970’s. He did free lance work for Young & Rubicam and several other national advertising agencies. He created photos for annual reports, brochures, campaigns, and magazines. He also enjoyed taking people, artistic, and sports photos. He did work for Eastern Airlines, Coca Cola, Chrysler Plymouth, Don Q Rum, Bacardi Rum, General Foods, Pantene, Nina Ricci’s L’air du Temps Perfume and other well known brands.

He introduced the concept of the dual projection audio visual slide presentation to the advertising world. His audio visual presentations included image dissolves, zooms and other techniques not possible with slides prior to that time. This was considered a powerful innovation in the field of advertising.

His unique audio visual presentations were used by advertising agencies to win commercial campaigns, at a time when their competition was using photo boards.

He also created an extensive retrospective audio visual presentation for the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York about the works of modern artist Augusto Marin.

What follows is a small sample of Vilella’s professional photographic work.
